Upon their comeback, Black Pink was nominated for the "2022 MTV Video Music Awards" (MTV VMAs) "Group of the Year."
"2022 MTV VMAs" announced additional lists of candidates for this year's awards on its official website on the 20th (Korea Standard Time). In the announcement, BLACKPINK was newly nominated for the "Group of the Year" category.
It has been a day since the release of one pre-released song "Pink Venom" and music video. It is unusual to think that there is almost a month left until the release date of the second full-length album (September 16) and the title of the album's title track is not known yet.
It can be seen that BLACKPINK has a high evaluation of its popularity and musical capabilities. In fact, BLACKPINK topped iTunes in a total of 70 countries, including the U.S. and the U.K., the mainstream pop market, with "Pink Venom," signaling a sensation.
Along with the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards, Black Pink is the first K-pop female artist to be invited to the MTV VMAs stage, one of the four major U.S. pop music awards.
This is the fourth girl group to appear on MTV VMAs after TLC, Spice Girls, and Pipps Harmony. Considering the history of MTV VMAs, which began in 1987, their strong global influence and presence shine even more.
BLACKPINK is expected to receive spectacular spotlights as it will stage a special performance at the awards ceremony, which will be held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey on August 28 (local time).
In addition to being nominated for "Group of the Year," Black Pink was named in the "Best Metaverse Performance" category and "Best K-pop" category.
