Jeonju International Film Festival (executive chairman Lee Joon-dong) opened the door for its 23rd journey.

On the 28th, the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival was revived in Jeonju Dome, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do, for the first time in three years.

More than 150 guests and 2,300 spectators attended the event. Among them, domestic and foreign filmmakers, including Justin H. Min from the opening film After Yang and director Lee Chang-dong from "Lee Chang-dong: The Truth of Invisibility," attended the event.

Jang Hyun-sung and Yoo In-na, who hosted the opening ceremony, said, "It's a new feeling to see many filmmakers in one place," adding, "I hope the audience, who have been waiting for the Jeonju International Film Festival for a long time, will enjoy it."

Kim Seung-soo, chairman of the organizing committee who took the stage, shouted "Jeonju is a movie" with the audience, and said, "We will hold the opening ceremony at Jeonju Island for the first time in three years. Film festivals, filmmakers, audiences, citizens, and volunteers are linked to movies. I respect and love you all. We will be immersed in the 10-day film festival prepared by the Jeonju International Film Festival," he said, announcing the opening.

Jeonju Dome, which hosted the event, was not installed for two years due to the prolonged pandemic, but it revived splendidly this year, attracting the audience of the festival and Jeonju citizens. Kim Seung-soo, chairman of the organizing committee, added, "Jeonju dom is the last, but from next year, the Jeonju Independent Film House, which will be a sacred place for independent films, will be built, so please pay a lot of attention."

Lee Joon-dong, chairman of the executive committee, succeeded him as the first film festival in the world to receive a pandemic, and the beginning of the event will also be held at the Jeonju International Film Festival. It is still cautious, but it has tried to completely restore the festive spirit. Please enjoy it as much as you want."

At the event, 14 judges of the International Competition, Korean Competition, and NETPAC Awards were introduced, followed by a greeting video of director Yeon Sang-ho, who was selected as the "J Special: Program of the Year," and the opening film, Kogonada, which was last seen.

The 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival will be held around Jeonju Cinema Street until May 7.
